Graviola’s Healing Powers
As early as 1976, studies have been performed seeking to discover the healing powers of graviola. One of the earliest studies was a plant-screening program by the National Cancer Institute. The leaves and stems of graviola showed to be very effective in fighting cancer cells. Researchers have been following up on these findings ever since.
Much of the cancer research on graviola focuses on a special set of chemicals produced from graviola called Annonaceous acetogenins. Graviola produces these natural compounds in its leaf and stem, bark, and fruit seeds. Annonaceous acetogenins are only found in the Annonaceae family (to which graviola belongs).
Three separate research groups have isolated these acetogenin compounds in graviola, which have shown significant anti-tumorous and anti-cancerous properties, and an active killer of various types of cancer cells (without harming healthy cells).
Purdue University Study
In 1997, Purdue University published information with promising news that several of the Annonaceous acetogenins " . . . not only are effective in killing tumors that have proven resistant to anti-cancer agents, but also seem to have a special affinity for such resistant cells." Purdue has conducted a great deal of the research on the acetogenins, much of which has been funded by The National Cancer Institute and/or the National Institute of Health (NIH).
Purdue University and/or its staff have filed at least nine U.S. and/or international patents on their work around the anti-tumorous and cancer fighting properties of these acetogenins. In one of their reviews, titled “Recent Advances in Annonaceous Acetogenins,” they state:
“Recently, we reported that the Annonaceous acetogenins can selectively inhibit the growth of cancerous cells and also inhibit the growth of adriamycin resistant tumor cells. As more acetogenins have been isolated and additional cytotoxicity assays have been conducted, we have noticed that, although most of acetogenins have high potencies among several solid human tumor cell lines, some of the derivatives within the different structural types and some positional isomers showed remarkable selectivities among certain cell lines; e.g., against prostate cancer.”
In 1998 four studies were published which further presented Graviola’s strong anti-cancerous, anti-tumorous, and anti-viral properties. Specific acetogenins in graviola have been reported to be effective in fighting prostate tumor cells in addition to lung, breast, pancreas, colon, liver cancer tumor cells.
Secret Major Phamaceutical Research
And finally a story comes from a large pharmaceutical company who launched a major program to capitalize on the healing powers of Graviola. The company poured money and resources into testing Graviola's anti-cancerous properties and they were shocked by their results: Graviola is a cancer fighting machine.
But there was one big problem. They'd spent years trying to isolate and create man-made duplicates of two of Graviola’s most powerful chemicals – but they couldn’t. And they couldn't sell the natural herbs profitably because federal law mandates that natural substances can't be patented. This meant the company couldn't recoup the millions of dollars and nearly seven years of research it had poured into it.
As it began to dawn on them that the big payday wasn’t going to come, the company stopped their study on Graviola. After seven frustrating years and without the promise of lucrative sales, the company shelved the project and refused to publish its findings in an independent journal.
Many other studies are ongoing. But you can draw from the research already documented that Graviola is a herb of great value in fighting cancer related prostate disease.
